Description

Three Japanese garden tools for the widest compact soil-working range

The Azui Complete Garden Cultivation Set brings together three compact hand tools for light cultivation, shallow weeding, surface soil preparation and localised work in firmer ground.

Start with the No.106 Pick Mattock to open crusted or compacted spots and start narrow planting holes. Follow with the No.102 Ika-Gata Hand Hoe to cultivate the loosened soil, scrape shallow weeds and draw soil into place. Finish with the No.101 Four-Tine Hand Hoe for lighter, controlled cultivation and aeration around plants.

This is complete within Azui’s compact hand-tool range. It does not replace long-handled hoes, spades or full-size mattocks for standing work or large areas of deeply compacted ground.

What is included

  • No.101 Four-Tine Hand Hoe: focused cultivation and aeration.
  • No.102 Ika-Gata Hand Hoe: versatile cultivation, scraping and shallow cutting.
  • No.106 Pick Mattock: concentrated breaking and compact digging.

  • Vegetable beds, herb gardens, flower borders and established planting areas
  • Maintaining workable soil
  • Opening crusted or compacted patches
  • Scraping shallow weeds
  • Mixing compost into the upper soil layer
  • Starting and shaping small planting areas
  • Working between established plants where larger tools are awkward

Frequently Asked Questions

What tools are included in the Azui Complete Garden Cultivation Set?

The set includes the Azui No.101 Four-Tine Hand Hoe, No.102 Ika-Gata Hand Hoe and No.106 Pick Mattock. Together they cover light cultivation, shallow weed cutting and firmer close digging work.

Do the three tools perform the same job?

No. The No.101 is the lighter cultivator, the No.102 adds a flat cutting blade, and the No.106 uses a pick and mattock head for firmer soil and narrow digging. The set is designed to expand capability rather than duplicate one tool.

Can these tools be used while standing?

These are short-handled tools with 390mm Japanese beech handles. They are intended for crouched or kneeling work in beds, borders and tight planting areas, not full-height standing use.

How should I care for the Azui cultivation tools?

Knock off soil after use, wipe each forged head dry and apply a light coat of camellia oil before longer storage. Do not use the tines, blades or pick as pry bars against rocks, concrete or large roots.
