Two Japanese garden tools for firmer soil and compact digging

The Azui Tough Ground Set combines the No.102 Ika-Gata Hand Hoe and No.106 Pick Mattock for localised work in firmer soil, dry beds and compacted surface layers.

Start with the No.106 pick to open crusted or compacted spots, then use its narrow mattock blade to widen and shape the loosened area. Follow with the No.102 tines to cultivate the disturbed soil, then use its small flat blade to scrape shallow weeds, break small clods and draw soil back into place.

Maintenance

Knock soil from both forged heads after use, wipe them dry and apply a light coat of camellia oil before longer storage. Do not use the tines, mattock blade or pick as pry bars against rocks, concrete or substantial roots.
