Description

Kespika is a compact rust and grime eraser made in Japan for quick clean ups on steel tools. It uses a fine fused-alumina abrasive in a firm block, so you can spot-clean rust, sap and water marks without soaking the whole tool or reaching for heavy chemicals.

Rub it over the affected area like a pencil eraser and it gently cuts back surface rust, patina and stubborn stains. It works well on secateurs, shears, sickles, knives and other garden or kitchen tools where a clean working edge matters.

The block is small enough to keep in a pocket or tool roll, which makes it useful at the bench, in the garden or at markets and jobsites. Use it to tidy up heel rust on blades, marks on ferrules, sap rings on spines and specks on stainless fittings.

As with any abrasive, it will leave fine scratches, so use a light touch on highly polished blades or decorative finishes. For deep rust or pitting, pair it with a 1000 grit whetstone or other heavier sharpening work, then finish with camellia oil before storage.

Maintenance

Use the Kespika eraser as part of your regular clean up after pruning or digging. Brush off soil, then rub away fresh rust spots, sap and marks, wipe the blade clean and finish with a light coat of camellia oil before putting tools away. On working tools it is often enough to use Kespika and oil between full sharpenings, keeping edges clean and ready without removing more steel than needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the Kespika Rust & Grime Eraser on my tools?

Work on a dry tool. Rub Kespika over the rusty or stained area like a pencil eraser, using short strokes along the length of the blade. Wipe away the residue, check your progress and repeat as needed, then dry and oil the tool before storage.

Will Kespika scratch my secateurs or knives?

Kespika uses a fine abrasive, so it will leave very small scratches, especially on mirror-polished or coated finishes. Use a light touch and follow the existing grain of the steel. If you want to keep a perfect mirror finish, limit use to working areas rather than decorative faces.

Can it remove heavy rust or deep pitting?

It is designed for light to moderate surface rust, patina and stains. For heavy flaking rust or deep pitting you will need a whetstone or more aggressive abrasive first, then use Kespika to tidy the surface and blend the finish before oiling.

Is it safe on stainless steel as well as carbon steel?

Yes, Kespika works on both stainless and carbon steel blades, as well as ferrules and other metal fittings. Avoid non-stick coatings, soft plastics and painted surfaces, since the abrasive can dull or remove those finishes.
