Fast, flat waterstones with a grooved #60 truing block

Keep your sharpening stones cutting cleanly with this Grooved Flattening Stone #60. The coarse silicon carbide face restores flatness quickly and the grooves clear slurry to prevent sticking. Ships from Perth for reliable delivery across Australia.

The block measures 170 × 55 × 30 mm for a secure grip and stable contact on typical bench stones. Use it wet. Soak both the flattening stone and your waterstone, then rub in even strokes over the whole surface until pencil grid marks disappear. The #60 grit cuts fast, making it ideal for correcting dish and preparing stones before fine honing. A clear storage case helps keep grit off your bench between sessions.

Rinse after use and let dry in the shade. Re-mark a pencil grid on your waterstone each session to confirm flatness. Avoid using on dry stones. Store in the case to limit grit transfer to fine tools and surfaces.

Tip: For very dished stones, start with diagonal figure-eights and rotate the waterstone every few passes to keep edges square.

Frequently Asked Questions

What stones can I flatten with #60 grit?

Use on waterstones, especially coarse to medium grits. For very fine stones, you can follow with a finer lapping surface if you want a smoother feel.

Do I use it wet or dry?

Wet only. Soak both the flattening stone and the target stone. Work evenly across the full surface to keep edges square.

How often should I flatten my waterstones?

Check with a pencil grid before each session. If the grid wears unevenly after a few passes, flatten until the marks vanish uniformly.

Will the grooves scratch my stones?

The grooves channel slurry and reduce suction. The #60 grit will leave a coarse surface that conditions the stone; a few normal sharpening strokes refine it.
