Description

Consistent 1K cutting with honest feedback

The Naniwa Gouken Deluxe 1000 is a reliable mid-grit waterstone made in Osaka, Japan. Sized 210 × 65 × 30 mm, it delivers crisp, even scratch patterns that refine a working edge on kitchen knives, chisels, and garden tools after coarse shaping. Soak for around 10 minutes before sharpening and maintain a light water film during use.

Built with Naniwa’s bonded abrasive expertise, this 1K stone balances speed, feedback, and durability. It is firm enough to hold shape under pressure yet responsive enough for controlled sharpening. Ideal as a daily maintenance stone between repairs and final polishing stages. Not suitable for ceramic knives.

Keep it flat with a grooved flattening stone and protect steel with camellia oil after sharpening. Explore other Japanese tools that benefit from precise edges in our Japanese Sickles collection. Shipped Australia-wide from Perth.

Tip: Keep the surface flat with light figure-eight strokes and rinse the slurry occasionally to maintain consistent cutting speed.

What Sets Our Tools Apart

Choosing your mid‑grit

A 1000 grit stone resets a tired edge and refines bevels after coarse work. It is the pivot between repair and polish

Soak time and care

Soak about 10 minutes, then keep a thin water film while sharpening. Rinse after use, air‑dry on edge, and flatten when needed.

Progression tips

For dull or chipped edges, start on a coarse stone, move to this 1K for structure, then finish on a 3K–6K depending on bite vs polish.
