Choose the Azui No.101 Four-Tine Hand Hoe for lighter, controlled cultivation and aeration, the Azui No.102 Ika-Gata Hand Hoe for versatile cultivation, shallow weed scraping, breaking small clods and drawing loose soil, or the Azui No.106 Pick Mattock for concentrated breaking, narrow planting holes and compact digging in localised patches of firmer ground.

The No.106 can loosen soil between established roots where there is enough working space, but it is not a root axe and should not be used as a pry bar.

Choose a Tobisho Type A for finer, smoother pruning cuts or Type B for a more robust general-pruning profile. Select 180mm or 185mm for compact handling, or 200mm for a fuller grip and greater leverage.

Knock soil from the Azui head and hori hori, remove sap from the pruning blades and apply a light coat of camellia oil to exposed carbon-steel surfaces where applicable.
