Description

Leather grip covers for better secateur comfort

These real leather secateur grips improve comfort and traction on long pruning sessions. They wrap and lace around the handles, adding a warmer feel in the hand and a little cushioning where steel handles can feel hard or slippery.

The leather will darken and develop patina with use, like a good tool should. Each set includes two grip covers and spare lace.

Compatibility

  • Fits most 180mm to 200mm Japanese-style pruning shears.
  • Works well on many steel-handled secateurs where extra grip or comfort is useful.
  • Not recommended for very small pruners such as Tobisho Hirei or Hon Norimitsu 150mm Type B.
  • If handles are highly polished and the leather creeps, add a thin anti-slip layer or a small strip of double-sided tape before final tightening.

Who should not buy this

  • Do not buy this if you want a perfect factory-moulded rubber grip feel.
  • Do not buy this for very small 150–165mm secateurs unless you are prepared to test fit.
  • Do not over-tighten the lace, as leather needs a little give.

Care expectations

Wipe dirt and sap off after use. Let wet leather air dry naturally away from heat. If it starts to feel dry, apply a small amount of neutral leather conditioner and wipe off excess.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do they improve grip?

Yes. The leather increases the fit and grip feel in the hand, which is especially noticeable on longer sessions.

My handles are smooth and the cover moves, what do I do?

Re-fit with a thin anti-slip layer or a small strip of double-sided tape under the leather, then lace snug.

Can the laces break?

They can if over-tightened. Tighten gradually and stop once snug. A spare lace is included.

Will the leather change colour?

Yes. Real cowhide will darken and develop a patina with use.

Is this sold as one grip or a pair?

It is a set for both handles, two grip covers, plus laces and a spare lace.

Will these fit my secateurs?

They fit most secateurs we sell. They do not fit Tobisho Hirei Pruning Shears or Hon Norimitsu 150mm Type B (150mm).
