Ikeuchi Mikikichan Carving Knives, Complete Six-Profile Set

Made in Miki, Hyōgo by Ikeuchi Hamono, this compact carving set combines six hand-forged blades in Blue Paper No.2 steel with comfortable wooden handles. The knives arrive in a canvas roll for secure storage and travel, ready for fine cuts in hardwoods and softwoods.

Aogami #2 is a high-carbon steel formulated for edge retention and toughness. Each blade is laminated to softer steel for easier sharpening and a resilient spine. The backs are ground with a light concavity to speed flattening and reduce friction on the cut.

  • Steel: Aogami (Blue Paper) No.2, laminated construction
  • Set profiles: Yoko, Hira, Ken, Kuri, Maru, Mikazuki
  • Approx. blade length: 60 mm; overall length: ~160 mm per knife
  • Handle: Japanese hardwood, balanced for control in detail work
  • Includes canvas tool roll with individual sheaths

Keep edges keen with a 1000-grit waterstone and refine on a 4000-grit finisher. See more wood-carving tools in our Japanese carving knife collection. Shipped Australia-wide from Perth.

What Sets Our Tools Apart

Six profiles for full coverage

Yoko, Hira, Ken, Kuri, Maru, and Mikazuki cover straight paring, layout and marking, tight inside curves, scoops, and gentle compound curves. Switch profiles instead of forcing one blade to do every job for cleaner surfaces and less tear‑out.

Sharpening workflow for small knives

Start on a 1000‑grit stone to raise a burr, remove it, then polish on 3000–4000 grit. Keep stones flat between sessions. Light camellia oil or paste wax after work prevents corrosion.

Why Aogami #2 for carving

Aogami #2 balances hardness and toughness, so tips hold a fine edge yet resist chipping in detail cuts. The laminated build gives a hard cutting core with a softer cladding that absorbs shock and makes maintenance faster.
